Vassil Atanassov

Student - DRS

Vassil joined ORI in 2023 as a DPhil student in Engineering Science under the supervision of Dr. Ioannis Havoutis. As part of the Dynamic Robot Systems (DRS) group, Vassil is working on legged robot locomotion control across highly irregular and complex terrains, using Deep Reinforcement Learning. His project is part of an industrial CASE, in collaboration with Dyson.

Previously, he completed a BEng in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Glasgow, followed by a Master’s of Science in Robotics at the Delft University of Technology. There, his research focused on model-based and learning-based control of articulated soft quadrupedal robots, enabling them to perform highly dynamic jumping motions in the real world.
