Biography

Alex Bewley joined the Mobile Robotics Group in 2016 as a postdoctoral researcher, and worked on applying machine learning techniques to robotic perception and planning.

Alex held a BEng (Mechatronics) from the University of Sydney and a PhD (TBD) in Robotic and Autonomous Systems from the Queensland University of Technology. His PhD research topic was on the adaptation of vision-based detection and tracking in novel and dynamic environments with applications towards field robotics. Prior to his PhD, Alex was an automation engineer for four years at the University of Queensland working on novel sensing methodologies for improving mine site operations.

In his spare time, Alex enjoyed board games and travelling.

  • Learning from demonstration
  • Perception and planning in dynamic environments
  • Learning visual representations for scene understanding
