Matias Mattamala

Postdoctoral Researcher - DRS

Biography

He completed his B.Sc, Ingeniería Civil Electrica (P.Eng), and M.Sc in Electrical Engineering at the Universidad de Chile. His master project was focused on the development of a visual-proprioceptive SLAM system for a NAO robot.

During his studies, he got involved in several robotics-related projects: he was a member of the RoboCup Soccer Team of the university; co-founded a branch of the Duckietown project in Chile, which he taught and directed 3 years; co-founded the Robotics Community; and also taught and mentored high-school students to learn coding and robotics with several foundations and companies. After his studies, he worked in the Universidad de Chile fostering multidisciplinary projects and lecturing some classes.

When not in the lab, Matias enjoys photography, travelling, reading, and searching for weird and cheap stuff in second-hand stores.
