Tyler was a DPhil student in the Department of Computer Science. He was a member of the Responsible Technology Institute and the Cognitive Robotics Group, where he was supervised by Prof. Marina Jirotka and Dr. Lars Kunze.
Tyler's research focused on the adoption of machine learning (ML) systems in high risk contexts. His thesis drew on interdisciplinary perspectives to help designers anticipate and mitigate the practical challenges that arise as ML systems are integrated into people's work practices.
Tyler has an interdisciplinary academic and professional background. He has received an MSc in Science, Technology, & Society from UCL, a Master of Business Administration from Oxford, and a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from RPI. Before his return to the academic world, Tyler worked as a cyber security consultant at a Big Four consultancy in New York.
