Biography
Sofia Gilardini is a DPhil student working within GOALS and Imperial College as part of the StatML CDT. Prior to joining Oxford, Sofia completed an MPhil in Machine Learning at the University of Cambridge and a BEng in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at The University of Edinburgh, which included a year spent at UCLA.
During her Bachelor's, she worked on robotic modelling and control for surgical robotics and alongside her MPhil, she worked at Apple developing robotics, ML, and automation pipelines alongside a computer vision algorithms team. Motivated by problems relevant in industry, Sofia is particularly interested in developing generalisable machine learning models that can quantify and leverage uncertainty, with the goal of making robust predictions and decisions in real-world environments.
