Dr. Jan Quenzel joined the Dynamic Robot Systems Group (DRS) at the Oxford Robotics Institute in May 2026. He works on multi-modal real-time odometry and mapping for robotic systems under the supervision of Prof. Maurice Fallon.
Dr. Quenzel obtained his doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) in 2025 from the University of Bonn, Germany. There he worked on multi-modal real-time perception and mapping for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the Autonomous Intelligent Systems Group (AIS) , supervised by Prof. Sven Behnke.
Jan significantly contributed to various projects from targeted inspection to rescue robotics for fire-fighters with UAVs within the German Rescue Robotics Center (DRZ). He participated as part of the team NimbRo in multiple international robotics competitions like MBZIRC in 2017 and 2020, as well as in EuRoC C3.
He obtained a M.Sc. in Computer Science in 2015 at the University of Luebeck, Germany, and a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering in 2012 from the University of Applied Sciences HAW Hamburg, Germany.
