Dongjiao He

Postdoctoral Researcher - DRS-P

Dongjiao is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Oxford Robotics Institute (ORI), where she works with Prof. Maurice Fallon on the medical-related reconstruction, tracking, and motion analysis, with a focus on combining ultrasound and camera-based sensing for intelligent medical systems. Her broader research interests lie in optimization, multimodal information fusion, and AI-driven robotic systems, with particular emphasis on state estimation, sensor fusion, and robust perception in challenging environments.

Prior to joining Oxford, Dongjiao was a Research Engineer at DJ-Innovation, where she led the development of vision-based visual-inertial odometry, precision return-to-home, and automated takeoff and landing systems for drone ports. Her work focused on robust perception and localization for autonomous aerial systems.

Dongjiao received her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (Robotics) from The University of Hong Kong, where she was advised by Prof. Fu Zhang. During her doctoral research, she worked on state estimation, observability analysis, and tightly coupled LiDAR-inertial-visual-GNSS systems for robotic navigation and SLAM. Her research contributed to widely adopted open-source robotics systems, including Point-LIO, Fast-LIO, and related LiDAR-inertial-visual odometry frameworks, and resulted in publications in venues including IEEE Transactions on Robotics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, and the International Journal of Robotics Research.

Before her Ph.D., Dongjiao earned an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, where she studied phase-change heat transfer, and a B.E. in Thermal Energy and Power Engineering from Southeast University. Her interdisciplinary background spans mechanical engineering, robotics, estimation, multimodal sensing, and intelligent systems, motivating her interest in developing robust perception and reconstruction methods that enable machines to better understand and interact with complex environments.
